It’s a methodical and detailed examination of the equipment and all safety-critical parts, carried out at specified intervals by a competent person. A written Report of Thorough Examination must be completed and contain the following information required by LOLER 98:
- The examination date
- The date when the next thorough examination is due
- Any defects found which are (or could potentially become) a danger to people
If the competent person identifies any serious defects during the examination, they must immediately report it to the responsible person. A written Report of Thorough Examination should shortly follow, of which a copy must also be sent to the relevant enforcing authority.
